How it all started..

As a teacher I am always washing my hands and have severely dry skin. I have tried to find an organic lotion that would heal my skin and I couldn't. I went to health food stores and there were still ingredients that I couldn't pronounce. So I decided to just make it myself. 

Mermaid Butter is handcrafted with all natural, organic ingredients, and without any synthetic chemicals. Pure essential oils can also be added.

About the logo.. 

Many of us Long Islanders share a similar passion and love for mermaids! Not only do we love them because they get to swim in the ocean all day, but because of their beautiful hair and glowing skin! This was all an inspiration for creating the name, "Mermaid Butter." My mother who is a very talented artist drew the mermaid and brought my vision to life!  Her wavy hair and wave-like flukes are to remind us of the ocean and resemble the whipped cream-like body butter. 

Why organic?..

Many people think that organic products are just too expensive. In department stores you will find that the prices of some of the big names are way more expensive than organic products.  However, many are mass produced and filled with chemicals.  

Research shows that the average adult is exposed to about 168 hazardous chemicals each day. Some of the chemicals that are commonly used in cosmetics and skin care are sodium laurel sulfate, parabens, phthalates, etc. These are known carcinogens or toxins that affect your immune, reproductive, and endocrine systems. Lotions are absorbed very easily through the skin and travel throughout your bloodstream.

Cancer has unfortunately touched our lives in some way.  When we hear about these chemicals being "cancer causing" we need to pay close attention to what we are putting in and on our bodies. Parabens are in many drugstore skincare products. Most parabens have been banned in Europe. These chemicals can be especially harmful to pregnant women and their unborn babies. Non-organic cosmetics and creams only provide a temporary mask for your skin and hair, and do not give them the nutrients they actually need.

 How to care for your butter..

Since the butter is preservative free it's important to care for it. It should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat. During the summer months you can keep it in the refrigerator. Since this is a preservative-free product it's important to keep germs, bacteria, and water from the butter.  Dramatically changing between hot and cold temperatures affects the consistency of the butter, but the quality will not be affected.  The colored glass jars give the butter extra protection from the sun and light. Mermaid Butter is handcrafted in small batches to ensure that you get the highest quality. It is also on a "made to order" basis to guarantee freshness.  Although a little goes a long way, it is best to use within 6 months!
